An event marking Bird Care Week in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen was held at the Shenzhen Safari Park in Nanshan District on Saturday.
The 43rd annual Bird Care Week, which runs from March 20 to 26, aims to popularize wildlife conservation and educate the public about its importance. This year’s program includes various educational events that focus on cherishing birds and promoting green endeavors in Guangdong.
During the event, participants were drawn to the specimen exhibition and interactive gaming area. At the crafting zone, children used natural materials to create their own souvenirs and gained hands-on knowledge about Shenzhen’s wildlife resources and regulations for protecting wild animals. Shenzhen enjoys one of the most diverse ecosystems in Guangdong.
According to the latest statistics, a total of 650 species of naturally distributed terrestrial wild vertebrates have been recorded in the city. Among them, there are 426 species of birds, including 135 winter migrants, 17 summer migrants, 116 resident birds and 158 migratory birds. Fifteen species are included on the level-1 State protection list and 79 are on the level-2 list.
These birds primarily inhabit areas such as Shenzhen Bay, Wutong Mountain, Sanzhoutian, and the Dapeng Peninsula. Shenzhen has implemented regulations to prohibit the consumption of wild animals.
