The ongoing Paris Olympics have sparked an interest in physical fitness among the public, resulting in a growing number of Shenzhen residents utilizing the intelligent gyms that are situated in public areas throughout the city.
According to a Shenzhen Special Zone Daily report, long lines are frequently seen at these outdoor public gyms, including the facility located on the western side of Lianhua Hill Park near Xinzhou Road.
“The exercise equipment attracts a lot of people every day, especially from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.,” said Gao, the head of the Lianhua Hill Park management office’s security team.
Gao stated that the two smart gyms in the park are extremely popular during the evenings and weekends. He also said that the gyms attract residents of different age groups.
“I work out here almost every day after dinner,” said a resident identified as Zhang while taking a break from exercising.
The smart gym includes a fitness test area, an intelligent digital training zone, a smart competition area, and a short sprint track. Advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and big data are integrated into the fitness equipment.
According to the personnel who manage these smart fitness facilities, the same physical training technologies used by the national team have been applied to these outdoor exercise areas. Users can access fitness testing techniques by scanning QR codes. The facilities also record real-time exercise data for users and provide tailored exercise guidance based on the data, according to the report.
