Shenzhen’s 1st BMX Freestyle training facility opens in Yantian

From: Shenzhen Daily | Updated:2024-11-22

The BMX Freestyle Training Facility at Yantian Sports Center officially opened its door on Nov. 22, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the region. The grand opening ceremony brought together athletes, officials, and enthusiasts to celebrate the new venue, which promises to boost the development of BMX Freestyle in Shenzhen and beyond.

BMX Freestyle, a sport that combines technical skill and artistic performance, involves riders performing tricks on bicycles using a variety of terrains such as flat ground, ramps, and skatepark obstacles. Recognized as an Olympic sport since its debut at the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games, BMX Freestyle gained further prominence as a featured event in the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics.

The new facility, developed and operated by Shenzhen Dazen Sports and Cultural Industries Co., Ltd., is the only all-weather BMX competition center in Shenzhen. Equipped with competition-grade features, including professional sports lighting and state-of-the-art obstacles that meet national standards, the venue is designed to host events of all levels, from grassroots activities to international competitions.

The launch of this facility comes in the wake of a historic achievement for Chinese BMX Freestyle. Earlier this year, Deng Yawen won gold in the Women’s BMX Freestyle Park Final at the Paris Olympics, marking China’s first-ever Olympic medal in the sport. This breakthrough has sparked increased interest in BMX Freestyle across the nation, further highlighting the importance of this new training center.

The Yantian BMX Freestyle Training Facility not only provides a dedicated space for athletes and enthusiasts to practice but also strengthens Yantian’s position as a hub for future BMX events and cultural activities. Plans are already underway to host local and national competitions, bringing this visually captivating and technically demanding sport closer to Shenzhen residents.

By offering professional-grade resources and convenient access, the facility aims to inspire a new generation of BMX riders and enhance the city’s sports culture.
